Do you ever have those moments where you feel like you’re in the right place at the right time? I certainly do, and let me tell you, it’s a feeling like no other. It’s like the stars have aligned just for you, and everything falls perfectly into place. It’s the kind of feeling that can make you believe in fate or destiny or whatever you want to call it.
I remember one particular moment like this in my life. I was in my early 30s, living in Florida, had two kids, and was working from home as a web designer. I had a strong desire to do more web development than design, but the company I was working for didn’t have a need for that. I was feeling pretty down on myself and my prospects for the future. But then, one day, I stumbled upon an opportunity that changed everything.
A Fortuitous Job Opportunity
I was in my office, looking through job postings on my computer, when I saw an ad for a self-development company that had an affiliate program. I put my name and email address in to learn more about the opportunity. To my surprise, not even an hour later, I received a phone call from Sherri. We started talking and it turned out she happen to be living in Texas (my home state) and shared a lot of the same values as I did. I decided to join her team, then I was introduced to her team leader, Jason, who was putting together a marketing system. He and I were about the same age, our kids were almost exactly the same age and it turned out that he used to be a software developer, so he and I immediately became friends.
Jason learned that I was a web developer and was itching to do something with it. He asked if I’d be willing to help him with some of the web software that he was using for the team’s marketing system. I gladly volunteered, because I knew it would help me out, too. Needless to say, things went really well after that, until the self-improvement company we were promoting got bought out by another company and the pay model was changed. Thanks to Jason’s help, I gained valuable experience working on web software and felt much more confident in my abilities. I slowly backed out of this opportunity and eventually landed a job in my home state of Texas just a few years later as a full-time web developer.
A Sudden Job Crisis: Realizing the Importance of Financial Independence
I moved my family, now a family of 5, to Texas and things were awesome! I was loving my job focusing on web development and my wife was able to getting a nursing job. After 3 years of being there, we had kid number 4! I was going to be taking a long break to spend time taking care of the new baby and her mom, when I got an urgent call from my supervisor: “Mike, I know your not scheduled to come back in for another week, but we have a situation going on, here. About 75% of the employees were laid off and we’re having a meeting tomorrow about what we’re doing to move forward. Don’t worry, your job safe, but you need to come to the office tomorrow.”
I was blown away. I went into the office the next day to find that many of my coworkers, who I had become friends with, were gone. I was happy to still have a job, but it scared me. I had forgotten that my livelihood was dependent on someone else and not myself.
A New Opportunity and a Rollercoaster Ride of Successes and Failures
Funny enough, guess who got in touch with me not long after that happened… It was Jason! He and a few leaders in his world were putting together a new marketing system and he wanted to see if I wanted to be a part. Of course I did! The opportunity to work with him again, lead me to even more opportunities, allowing me to quit my job at that development company. Needless to say, it’s been a rollercoaster ride of successes and failures since then that I’ll never, ever regret.
Looking back, I realize that I was in the right place at the right time. If I hadn’t been looking for something else or if I had not answered Sherri’s phone call, I never would have found the opportunities and people I’ve met over the years. It was like God was saying, “Hey, this is for you. Pay attention!”
And that’s the thing about these moments. They can be small, like finding a job posting, or they can be big, like meeting the love of your life. But no matter how big or small, they’re all important. They remind us that we’re on the right path, that we’re doing something right, and that we should keep going.

Maybe you’re in the right place at the right time, and something amazing is about to happen for you. Or maybe it’s just a reminder to keep going, to keep searching, and to keep believing that the universe has something great in store for you.
Either way, I’m glad you’re here. And who knows? Maybe we’re all here for a reason, to inspire and uplift each other on this crazy journey we call life. So let’s keep going, let’s keep believing, and let’s keep being in the right place at the right time.
Let me leave you with this. Proverbs 27:17 says, “You use steel to sharpen steel, and one friend sharpens another.” How can you and I “sharpen” each other? Thanks for reading!
